Sustainability and university: two approaches committed to the future
Sustainability. The intangible term that always unsettles those around us. It is surely one of the most oft-repeated words at political summits and concerns society across the board: our future depends on it.
The concept of sustainability has been defined and developed over the years, and has gained recognition in the academic sphere. It aims to introduce profound systemic change that enables future generations to get ready for the culture of sustainability.
With the increase in ever more serious environmental problems, and in light of the global climate emergency, the UIB has implemented an environmental management model committed to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Agenda 2030.
The UIB is coordinating efforts for sustainability, the SDGs and Agenda 2030
We are working on making our university campus sustainable through support mechanisms such as training, research and information transfer, combining two core action approaches:
On a technical front, greening and optimising resources and environmental management activities.
And in turn, promoting activities aimed at supporting and strengthening participation amongst the academic community in environmental management and sustainability.
We pledge to work on:
Climate change and mobility
- The UIB supports the climate emergency declaration
- Car club programme (Fes e-dit)
- How to get to the campus and university headquarters by public transport
