The Degree in Hotel Management aims to provide students with the necessary knowledge and skills to run hotel companies. The programme trains professionals who are capable of performing management tasks at accommodation and catering companies in national and international settings. The degree programme includes a major practical component in operational management areas for all hotel departments.
What skills will you acquire?
As a student on the Degree in Hotel Management, you will discover and become familiar with tourism activity in general, and with the hotel sector specifically. You will acquire knowledge focused on company management in the hotel, accommodation and catering sectors, and undertake placements at national and international companies.
You will acquire skills in using core management and supervisory principles across different operational departments and areas for ongoing improvement at hotel companies. You will also get to know and apply knowledge in economics, law, geography, new technologies and human resources in the hotel sector, with the ability to work as part of a team and adapt to new surroundings in a highly dynamic sector. Moreover, you will have a high level of language training in English and German.
What profile should you have?
The Degree in Hotel Management is aimed at students who are interested in training as multipurpose professionals with a clear motivation for the hotel industry. They will acquire good communication, organisational and commercial skills across several languages, as well as a collaborative and teamwork approach with a high respect for the importance of service excellence in the different hotel sector fields, both nationally and internationally. It is particularly focused on students seeking to acquire solid knowledge, skills and abilities that will enable them to plan, lead, manage, organise, supervise and control projects and work teams, as well as take decisions in a changing global scenario that is both complex and competitive, within the hotel sector where guest requirements are ever more diverse and constantly evolving.
What career opportunities will you have?
Graduates in Hotel Management will possess the necessary skills to undertake professional management and supervisory tasks. They shall know the fundamentals of the hotel industry and be able to: resolve problems, defend arguments, compile information and critically analyse territorial, social, financial and legal aspects linked to the hotel, accommodation and catering industries. They shall possess a high level of English and German language skills, as well as a customer service approach with the professional resources to implement it responsibly and ethically.
Hotel Management graduates will be able to develop professional careers at:
- Accommodation companies (hotels, hotel chains, cruise lines, etc.) as manager, deputy manager or department coordinator (reservations, reception, procurement, revenue management, etc.)
- Non-holiday accommodation companies (hospitals, residences, etc.) as manager, deputy manager or department head
- Restaurant/catering firms and companies linked to complementary hospitality services (leisure centres, catering and theme parks) as director, manager, area supervisor, advisor, etc.
- Consulting firms for start-ups in the hotel, accommodation and catering sectors
- Research institutes, universities and other research centres undertaking teaching and research activities in the hotel, accommodation and catering fields.
