The Degree in Tourism aims to provide students with specific training in the most important economic sector in the Balearic Islands: tourism.
- The degree is taught at the university headquarters in Minorca, partly by local lecturers and partly by lecturers based in Palma. Students in Minorca are taught at the Alaior campus lecture halls, either in-person by a locally-based lecturer or via videoconference by a lecturer in Palma. Moreover, Palma-based lecturers travel to the Minorca site four times per semester (running four seminars lasting three hours each—representing almost a quarter of the teaching hours on a six-ECTS subject)
- Videoconference classes are run from specially equipped lecture halls in Palma: classes use real-time, bidirectional videoconferencing connected to the Minorca classrooms via a large bandwidth that provides high quality image and sound. The technology enables students in Alaior to participate fully in lectures and easily communicate with their classmates and lecturers in Palma
- The Faculty of Tourism runs the degree in Minorca with support from the Campus Extens project. This project has enjoyed twenty successful years working with different degree programmes at the Minorca and Ibiza headquarters (Business Science and Administration, Law, Nursing, Primary and Early Childhood Education, etc.). The methodology in place includes videoconferencing and trips by Palma-based lecturers to the Minorca and Ibiza sites, the use of a digital classroom (mostly on Moodle) providing learning resources, different communication tools, individual and/or group work activities, etc.
