What is it?

The objective of the degree in tourism is to provide students with specific training related to the most important economic sector of the Balearic Islands: the toursim sector.

What will you learn?

Graduates will be able to: analyse a business and its environment; identify and foresee market opportunities; allocate available resources; gather, organise, interpret, and communicate relevant information; choose and motivate workers; make decisions; work as part of a team; and adapt themselves to new technologies and new economic situations.

They will also acquire abilities specifically related to managing tourism-related businesses, tourism economics, and other disciplines including law, geography, and the management of cultural heritage, as well as receive advanced training in languages (English, French, and/or German).

What will you be able to do once you finish?

Graduates from the tourism programme with have the abilities necessary to responsibly and expertly carry out related professional duties. They will be given a strong foundation based on business management in the tourism industry. They will be able to solve problems; present arguments; gather and critically analyse spatial, social, economic, and legal information related to tourism; and use foreign languages, especially English.

Graduates from the tourism programme will be able to pursue careers in:

  1. Accommodation companies (hotels, hotel chains...) as: hotel managers, deputy hotel managers, department managers or coordinators (reservations, reception, purchasing, revenue management, cost management, marketing, human resources management, strategy and expansion policy directors, etc.)
  2. Intermediaries, incoming agencies, bed banks, package holiday consolidators and creators, metasearch engines, tour operators, etc.: product marketing, managing and creating new products, client management, negotiating with suppliers, integration and expansion, sales and marketing techniques, etc.
  3. Leisure companies, destination management companies (DMCs), and event planning companies: conventions, fairs, business meetings, product presentations, etc.
  4. Air and land transport companies (airlines, car rental agencies, etc.) and cruise ship companies. Product marketing, client management, negotiating with suppliers, sales and marketing techniques, etc.
  5. Public-sector agencies and bodies (tourism ministries, town halls and other entities dedicated to promoting tourism, etc.): promotion and management of tourism destinations, marketing campaign management, analysing tourism's social and environmental impact, preparing tourism related statistics and reports, etc.
  6. Tourism related consulting: conducting market studies, creating strategic marketing plans, designing and carrying out marketing campaigns, planning for expansion and internationalisation, coming up with innovative ideas, revenue management consulting, etc.
  7. New technology companies: support the development of new technologies related to managing and marketing tourism related companies and tourism products (customer relationship management [CRM], search engine marketing [SEM], and search engine optimization [SEO]).
  8. Research institutes, universities, and other research centres: teaching and research in fields related to economics, business, and tourism.
