Neurophysiology
Overview of the research activity
The research activity of the group focuses on the study of the physiology of brain aging, as well as the analysis of strategies that contribute to preventing this brain aging; with the aim of clarifying the molecular mechanism responsible for the neuroprotective properties. The research activity is mainly focused on the age-related deterioration that occurs in the cerebral monoaminergic systems that is associated with the cognitive deterioration characteristic of age; and with the role of oxidative stress and neuroinflammatory processes in this brain decline. The group has experience in different behavioral tests to analyze cognitive and motor function with a rat model; with analysis of cerebral monoaminergic systems using HPLC techniques, and with molecular biology techniques.
