How to improve positions in university rankings?
THE - Times Higher Education - WORLD UNIVERSITY RANKINGS 2019
The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2019 places the UIB in the 501-600 global position range for the best universities in the world. This prestigious ranking is an international classification focused on teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook that places the UIB in ninth place out of 38 participating Spanish institutions in general.
The ranking also places the UIB as the sixth best in Spain in terms of publication citations of its researchers. By discipline, the UIB is in the 401-500 range for the best universities in the world for Education Sciences, Engineering and Technology, and Arts and Humanities. In turn, it also ranks the UIB in the 501-600 range for Social Sciences.
With regard to the Times Higher Education Young University Rankings 2019, the UIB is amongst the 101 to 150 best universities under fifty years old around the world and holds third place amongst Spanish universities, only coming behind the Pompeu Fabra University and the Rovira i Virgili University. The Times Higher Education Young University Rankings includes 351 universities from around the globe.
Shanghai Ranking 2019
The University of the Balearic Islands (UIB) is amongst the top 500 universities in the world, in the 401-500 range globally and at 11th position in Spain, according to the Academic Ranking of World Universities 2019 (ARWU), one of the most renowned classifications and produced by the Shanghai Ranking Consultancy.

The U-Ranking from the BBVA Foundation and the IVIE ranks Spanish universities by volume of results and productivity. The research indicators are taken from the ISI database by Thomson-Reuters. The 2018 report ranks the University of the Balearic Islands in the following positions:

Highly Cited Researchers 2018
The international Highly Cited Researchers 2018 ranking from Clarivate Analytics spotlights five researchers from the University of the Balearic Islands as amongst the most influential in the world, since they have several works amongst the top 1% of the most cited in their field of study for a single year. These are: Hipólito Medrano Gil, full professor in the area of Plant Physiology in the Department of Biology, and lead researcher in the Biology of Plants under Mediterranean Conditions Research Group (PLANTMED) and at the Agro-Environmental and Water Economics Institute (INAGEA); Jaume Flexas Sans, senior lecturer in the area of Plant Physiology in the Department of Biology and researcher in the PLANTMED group and at INAGEA; Jeroni Galmés Galmés, senior lecturer in the area of Plant Physiology in the Department of Biology and researcher in the PLANTMED group and at INAGEA; Miquel Ribas Carbó, senior lecturer in the area of Plant Physiology in the Department of Biology and researcher in the PLANTMED group and at INAGEA, and Ramon Rosselló Mora, scientific researcher at the Mediterranean Institute for Advanced Studies (IMEDEA, CSIC-UIB).
