New student profile and admission criteria

Those interested in taking the Master's course should register, and their application will be considered by the Academic Committee. Admission criteria are as follows:

  1. Maximum number of admitted students: 45;
  2. Assessment of merits: educational, professional, and research background; and
  3. Any other conditions stipulated in the UIB's or the Centre for Postgraduate Studies' regulations.

Holders of degrees can apply, though priority will be given to those with degrees in history and art history as well as those from other branches of humanities and life sciences.

The Academic Committee will also consider previous merits, including degrees related to the content of the Master's programme, professional or research work related to the objectives of the Master's programme, and the conditions that students must specify and accredit in the registration application.

The Committee will publish a list of admitted students and a waitlist that will be given to the Postgraduate Committee.

Before completing enrolment, students can request recognition of previous educational experience and associated homologation as credits. Holders of licentiate degrees in history and art history can receive credit for a large number of credits.

Generic and specific competencies associated with the degree programme

  1. To train specialists under the framework of comprehensive conservation of cultural heritage.
  2. To provide a deeper understanding of the knowledge and study of cultural heritage.
  3. To answer the demand for labour in the field of cultural heritage.
  4. To foment competences related to the protection of cultural heritage.
  5. To create ties between cultural heritage and specific models for carrying out cultural tourism.
  6. To analyse and understand the relationship between cultural heritage and local development.

This Master's programme is organized by the Department of Historical Sciences and Art Theory in order to train professionals that are specialized in cultural heritage research and management. The goal of the programme is to provide students with the instruments, techniques, knowledge, and abilities that will allow them to value heritage as a contributor to local development and to prioritise social commitments.

Access to other study programmes and career opportunities

Upon completing this Master's programme, graduates will be able to continue to develop their research abilities by participating in the doctoral programme in history, art history, and geography (THAG) offered through the UIB's Doctoral School. To do this, graduates must meet a series of requirements, which do not, however, guarantee their direct access to this doctoral programme.

 

Structure of the study programme

This Master's programme consists of 120 ECTS credits that are designed to be completed over two academic years (60 ECTS credits/year) or over four semesters (30 ECTS credits/semester).

Teaching takes place during the first three semesters and during the fourth, students will participate in internships and complete their Master's theses. There are four mandatory subjects and the rest are electives that students may choose from voluntarily or by modules depending on their educational, professional, and research related interests. All subjects are worth 5 ECTS credits.

In order to be awarded the degree, students must pass 90 ECTS credits' worth of subjects, receive 20 ECTS credits from internships, and complete the 10-ECTS-credit Master's thesis.

Classes will take place three days per week in the afternoons/evenings.

Classes take place in person and are mandatory.
