Over the last century, scientific research has progressively specialised with an increasing marked division between areas and topics. Nowadays, however, the many multifaceted problems in society require analyses with a comprehensive overview of issues and interconnected approaches to ideas. Within this context, postgraduate training in chemical technology (CyTQ) provides students with the necessary tools and skills to attain an overarching perspective on chemistry and related areas, as well as industrial processes.
Chemists who have received interdisciplinary training are able to undertake research or develop a professional career beyond traditional fields of work, in addition to collaborating with researchers and professionals in disciplines outside chemistry and technology. Moreover, their exhaustive training means they contribute added value through their understanding of chemical processes and reactions, and their ability to transfer ideas between different knowledge areas, including biology, food engineering, medicine, energy, the environment and materials, etc.
The Master's Degree in Chemical Science and Technology is a new programme inspired by the previous curriculum, which was introduced in 2006 and ran continuously until 2014. The former degree programme served as the training stage on the PhD in Chemical Science and Technology, which has been granted quality certification from the Ministry of Education (REF MCD2007-00572) and a Mention towards Excellence from the Spanish government (REF MEE2011-0104). The accrued experience on these programmes has been key to designing a new master's syllabus that aligns with new regulations, and current requirements on the job market and in society as a whole.
The European Chemistry Thematic Association, Spain's National Agency for Quality Assessment and Accreditation (ANECA) and the Spanish Royal Society of Chemistry have recognised the quality of master's programmes in chemistry through the Eurolabel international seal. Eurolabel ensures degree programmes fulfil the required criteria in terms of quality and rigour to train internationally competitive professionals, and provides employers with the assurance that graduates are trained to the highest standards. In turn, the seal stands as an endorsement for students not only with regard to the exceptional quality of the Master's Degree in Chemical Science and Technology programme at the UIB, but also as an important factor in bolstering graduate employability.
The programme is run in collaboration with:
What skills will you acquire?
Taking this program you will have the chemical and technological knowledge to provide originality when solving a problem developing or applying new ideas within a research context. In addition, you will know how to apply the acquired knowledge and the ability to solve problems in new or unfamiliar environments within broader (or multidisciplinary) contexts related to science and chemical technology. You will be able to integrate knowledge and handle complexity, and formulate judgments based on information that was incomplete or limited, including the considerations on social and ethical responsibilities linked to the application of the knowledge.
You will know how communicate your findings, the knowledge and the rational thought that support them either to specialist and non-specialists audiences in a clear and unambiguous language. You will be able to analyze and interpret complex data in the field of the Chemistry and the Quemical Technology, and in addition, to develop theoretical and practical skills to solve interesting applied problems in the context of the Chemistry and the Quemical Technology. You will know how to value the importance of chemistry and its progress in environment protection and sustanibility. You will perform laboratory experiments based on theoretical knowledge using advanced experimental techniques and you will get the knowledge how to describe the results connected with the proposed theories.
What career opportunities will you have?
It is well know the wide range of sectors where skills in chemistry are fundamental to develop a carrer, and these jobs have a high impact on the quality of life of the society. The main areas where professionals with a chemical background can be found are: food processing, consultancy, quality control, teaching, industry, research, environment, risk prevention and health among others. Our Master`s degree gives the skills needed to work in any area related with Chemistry and Chemical Technology with a wide range of job opportunities.
High-quality official study
Legislation requires that official Spanish degree programmes receive a positive assessment from the National Agency for Quality Assessment and Accreditation (ANECA, by its Spanish acronym). This process is known as verification, and it serves to ensure that education programmes are properly designed to provide the competencies and reach the learning goals around which the programmes are built. In the results you can find reports on official study programmes.
The European Higher Education Area requires that there be a system in place to ensure the quality of degree programmes .
The Master's programme is subject to constant assessment and improvement processes that guarantee that it maintains a certain level of prestige and renown in Europe. You can see the results of the assessment processes in the section on quality .
