The chemistry programme provides general training in which students will learn about the properties and composition of substances; the transformative processes that materials undergo during synthesis; the production and quality control of consumable, industrial, alimentary, and pharmaceutical products; and all human processes that have or could have an effect on the environment and resource sustainability.
What skills will you acquire?
In this degree programme, students will acquire the abilities to solve problems; create and defend arguments related to chemistry; and plan, design, and safely carry out chemistry experiments as well as interpret the experimental data gathered. On the programme's webpage you can find a detailed list of all of the competencies that will be covered.
What profile should you have?
Taking the Chemistry programme will be much easier with:
- A good general level of chemistry and mastery of chemical formulation and stoichiometric calculations.
- A good level of physics and mathematics.
- Sound knowledge of English since it is the scientific language par excellence and many textbooks and research journals are written in English.
- Knowledge and aptitude for IT.
- Skills in handling laboratory material.
What career opportunities will you have?
Scientific and Technical Professional Activities
- Chemistry studies, research, reports, projects, analyses and tests, chemical product synthesis and managerial and executive tasks on topics linked to chemical science and technology, the food industry, pharmaceuticals, clinical analysis, quality control, industrial health and safety...
- Scientific and technological advice on chemistry topics.
- Arbitration and assessments that involve chemical processes.
- Designing chemical facility projects, at laboratory, pilot or industrial scale, as well as performance supervision and management.
- Specific tasks for national, regional, island and local Public Administration, as well as for international organisations.
Research, Development and Control of Chemical and Technological Processes
- Programming, managing, coordinating, supervising, undertaking and assessing laboratory activities, as well as those aspects linked to corresponding research, development and control.
Teaching
- Secondary education (compulsory and post-compulsory) and vocational training.
- University.
- Training and recycling courses for business.
Travel and Learn
The UIB offers students the chance to take part in different exchange and mobility programmes:
- Exchange and mobility programmes: to complete part of your studies at another university in Spain, the European Union, and around the world, or to get work experience at businesses in the European Union, managed by the International Relations Service.
- Volunteer work experience and projects with university development cooperation programmes in least developed countries, run through the development cooperation programmes managed by the Cooperation for Development and Solidarity Office (OCDS).
High-quality official study
Legislation requires that official Spanish Degrees receive positive evaluations by the National Agency for Quality Assessment and Accreditation (ANECA). This process is called verification, and it serves to ensure that the development programme in which you will participate will provide the skills and learning results that it is supposed to.
See the official degree study plan report
The European Higher Education Area requires that a system be in place to ensure the quality of degree programmes .
Bachelor's programmes are subject to assessment and are continuously improved upon in order to guarantee their prestige and recognition within Europe. You can see the results of the assessments at results section .
