The main objective of this degree programme is to train professionals and provide them with knowledge in all of the areas related to biochemistry, bioanalysis, biomedicine, and molecular biology in general. These professionals will have the conceptual, manual, and technical tools necessary for understanding and applying this knowledge.
What skills will you acquire?
In this degree programme, students will acquire abilities that will enable them to join the biomedicine and bioanalysis workforce. On the programme's webpage, you can find detailed information on the skills and abilities that will be addressed.
What profile should you have?
Perseverance, intuition, creativity, logic, a critical nature, and the ability for observation and abstraction are useful skills for Biochemistry students. Those interested in knowing how living beings function, the causes behind a disease, the industrial application of biochemical processes, etc. will also possess the necessary motivation to enjoy and succeed in this programme.
What career opportunities will you have?
Two professional profiles can be defined:
- Biochemistry and Molecular Biomedicine. The application of molecular biosciences to the study of health and diseases, including the molecular analysis of the mechanisms of diseases, as well as the research, diagnosis, prevention and treatment of human diseases:
- Biomedical and bioanalytical activity. The application of biochemical and biotechnological technologies to clinical medicine, hospitals, pharmaceutical and clinical analysis laboratories, health research centres, and related industries.
- Health biotechnology. The discovery and development of new products and services in health biotechnology, biopharmaceutical and other similar sector industries, as well as at health, biomedical and biotechnological research centres.
- Research and teaching. Including two different areas:
- Higher research and teaching. At universities, public and private scientific and technological research centres, and R&D&i departments at businesses in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, analysis and vehicle, and other similar areas.
- Secondary education teaching. This degree provides the necessary training for teaching (at secondary school level) in the area of experimental sciences (Natural, Physics, Chemistry) and life sciences (Biology).
Travel and Learn
The UIB offers students the chance to take part in different exchange and mobility programmes:
- Exchange and mobility programmes: to complete part of your studies at another university in Spain, the European Union, and around the world, or to get work experience at businesses in the European Union, managed by the International Relations Service.
- Volunteer work experience and projects with university development cooperation programmes in least developed countries, run through the development cooperation programmes managed by the Cooperation for Development and Solidarity Office (OCDS).
High-quality official study
Legislation requires that official Spanish Degrees receive positive evaluations by the National Agency for Quality Assessment and Accreditation (ANECA). This process is called verification, and it serves to ensure that the development programme in which you will participate will provide the skills and learning results that it is supposed to.
See the official degree study plan report
The European Higher Education Area requires that a system be in place to ensure the quality of degree programmes .
Bachelor's programmes are subject to assessment and are continuously improved upon in order to guarantee their prestige and recognition within Europe. You can see the results of the assessments at results section .
