The degree programme in Catalan language and literature is designed to train professionals with an extensive knowledge of Catalan language and literature both from a theoretical as well as practical point of view. The objective of the programme is: a) that graduates will have the preparation necessary to understand and critically analyse a wide range of linguistic, sociolinguistic, literary, and cultural details; b) that they will be able to relate these details with knowledge and methodologies from other disciplines and areas of study; and c) that they will be able to apply the knowledge that they gain in a professional context.
What skills will you acquire?
This degree programme is designed to train specialists with a solid knowledge of languages and of the different ways of building texts, producing content, and analysing discourse. The programme will provide students with the competencies to analyse, in-depth, the history and current situation Catalan language, literature, and culture. The degree programme will also give students abilities related to research as well as professionalisation: enabling graduates to access master's and doctorate programmes and carry out professional careers in various areas.
What profile should you have?
The ideal profile characteristics for those students starting the Degree in Catalan Language and Literature include: the ability for analysis and reflection; the ability for interaction, dialogue and communication; the ability for teamwork; the ability for criticism and reasoning; creativity, and intellectual curiosity and interest in Catalan language and literature. It should be pointed out that in no way are these mandatory conditions since, if students feel they do not possess them or require further development, they can be acquired and improved during the degree programme.
