Learning Goals
The Master's Degree in Construction and Architectural Renovation provides students with advanced training in this field. The programme comprises four modules covering building processes, structures, installations, management and the master's thesis.
The construction module provides comprehensive training in the construction systems for current buildings according to their construction type and date; diagnosing building defects and how to remedy them through innovative techniques; the latest sustainable building solutions to ensure energy efficiency in line with different building types; coordinating health and safety in renovations by using the most up-to-date techniques in the field, and universal access to ensure buildings are fully accessible.
The structures module provides comprehensive training in structural analysis through the finite element method (FEM) that supplies highly detailed information on structural elements for surveys and/or project sizing, as well as in how to intervene in structures through surveys and/or project sizing by using the latest tools and techniques.
The installations module provides comprehensive training in building installations through using advanced methods and techniques that enable current installations to be appraised and new installations be sized, with a view to ensuring better energy efficiency and sustainability.
The management module provides comprehensive training in how to interpret and apply current legislation and the necessary procedures to obtain administrative permits for building renovations. In turn, it covers building management through information modelling to ensure renovation and maintenance processes are monitored throughout a building's life cycle.
The master's thesis represents an original piece of work that partially or fully incorporates the skills acquired on the programme's modules.
