Recommended Admission Profile

The Master's Degree in Construction and Architectural Renovation is aimed at graduates (or equivalent) who wish to acquire advanced knowledge in the field of construction and/or steer their professional careers towards or undertake initial research tasks into architectural regeneration.

Given the skills to be acquired on this programme will go more in-depth into skills previously acquired by students in construction, candidates seeking admission to the Master's Degree in Construction and Architectural Renovation must hold a degree (or equivalent) linked to construction and architecture. Specifically, they should have qualifications geared towards professional architectural or technical architectural practice, including the following:

  • Degree in Technical Architecture and Construction
  • Degree in Construction
  • Degree in Civil Engineering
  • Degree in Architecture
  • Degree in Architectural Studies
  • Degree in Architectural Studies
  • Degree in Architectural Foundations

Entry

Students interested in applying for a spot on the programme must submit their pre-registration application within the deadline stated on the website, and in accordance with the procedure for each academic year, as set by the UIB Centre for Postgraduate Studies (CEP).

The CEP will verify whether applicants fulfil the requirements for admission to the programme and, subsequently, submit the application to the programme coordinators to consider and decide on admission.

Finally, the CEP will publish the list of admitted students and provide the enrolment dates.

This procedure is governed by Regulatory Agreement of 23rd March 2022 that governs Entry and Admission to Official Master’s Programmes, published in the extraordinary issue of FOU no. 534 of 31st March 2022 (https://seu.uib.cat/fou/acord/14423/), implementing Article 18 of Royal Decree 822/2021 of 28th September that sets out the Organisation of Higher Education Programmes and the Quality Assurance Procedure.

Admission

The master's coordination team will be in charge of the candidate admission procedures for the programme.

Admission Requirements

Spanish and Catalan Language Level Accreditation

The teaching languages on the programme are Spanish and Catalan, since both are co-official languages in the Balearic Islands. Lecturers may teach their classes in either language.

In this sense, non-native students must at least have an accredited level equivalent to B2 in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: Learning, Teaching, Assessment (Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport, 2002) from the European Union Council. B2-level Spanish and/or Catalan will be deemed accredited for candidates who fulfil any of the following conditions:

  1. Submitting certificates or diplomas equivalent to a B2 level, in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: Learning, Teaching, Assessment (Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport, 2002)
  2. Having taken university courses in the stated language
  3. Having taken high school studies in the stated language
  4. Having passed an interview with the master's coordinators.

Admission Criteria

The following criteria shall be considered in terms of assessing the merits of applicants wishing to be admitted to the master's programme.

  1. Average mark from the academic record for studies granting admission to the programme
  2. A CV setting out candidates' professional experience.

To ensure correct assessment, candidates must submit the required and duly accredited documentation, in accordance with what is set by the admissions body.

Applicants' merits shall be assessed as per the following weighted percentages:

  1. Average mark from the academic record for studies granting admission to the programme (85%)
  2. Professional experience in the field: 15% of the total score.

If there is a tie between candidates after applying the weighting percentages, admissions will be assessed based on the entry qualification for the programme, as per the order set out in section 4.1.a Recommended Entry Profile. Where there is still a tie between candidates after applying these criteria, the decision to resolve the tie will be made based on their registration date for the master's programme.
