Brief CV

Graduated in Mathematics (2019), Master in Intelligent Systems (2020) and PhD in Information and Communication Technologies (2024), all from the University of the Balearic Islands. Professor in the Department of Mathematical Sciences and Computer Science since 2020 with different job positions, currently with the category of Assistant lecturer with a PhD. He is a member of the SCOPIA research group and a collaborator of the UGIVIA group.

During his research career, he has participated in various national and regional competitive projects, focusing on the following lines of research.

  • Study of fuzzy logic operators and information processing with uncertainty. This is the framework for his doctoral thesis, entitled Characterizations and enumerations of some classes of logical operators defined on finite chains and supervised by Dr. Sebastià Massanet and Dr. Daniel Ruiz Aguilera. In the thesis, he has studied theoretical properties of fuzzy logic operators defined on finite chains: their axiomatic characterization, their enumeration and their asymptotic behavior. He has published several articles on this subject in prestigious journals and at international conferences. He has also worked on the applications of these operators in image processing within the environment of discrete mathematical morphology. He has collaborated with various international researchers during a three-month stay at LORIA (Laboratoire lorrain de recherche en informatique et ses applications) in Nancy, France.
  • Image processing in abdominal surgery. Together with Dr. Manuel González Hidalgo and Dr. Gabriel Moyà Alcover from the UIB, and doctors Juan José Segura Sampedro and Andrea Craus Miguel, from IdISBa, techniques have been formulated for the processing of images of abdominal surgery and the automatic detection of signs of infection with artificial intelligence. The result of this collaboration is the mobile application Redscar, clinically validated at the Son Espases University Hospital (Palma, Balearic Islands, Spain). Using a photograph taken by the patient with their device, the application analyzes the image and a general health questionnaire, and recommends a face-to-face check-up if any signs of infection are detected. It is currently in the multicenter validation phase in various national hospitals.
  • Segmentation of lung regions and automatic detection of pathologies. Using deep learning techniques, explainability and aggregation of information, a method has been proposed to locate the lung region in a chest X-ray and, subsequently, whether there is any pathology present (COVID-19, tuberculosis, pneumonia, etc.). The MIA4LUNG website has been developed with various members of the SCOPIA group, where all the proposed algorithms and their real-time evaluation can be found.

Regarding his teaching career, he has taught in the Degree in Mathematics, Degree in Computer Engineering and University Master's Degree in Big Data Analysis in Economics and Business. His current teaching focuses on mathematical analysis and statistics.
