Brief CV

Melania S. Masià works as an assistant professor in the Department of Spanish, Modern, and Classical Languages of the University of the Balearic Islands. She received her Bachelor's degree in Spanish Philology from the Universitat de les Illes Balears (2010) and her Master's degree in Cognitive Science and Language from the Universitat de Barcelona (2011). She holds a PhD in Cognitive Science and Language from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (2017). She developed her doctoral dissertation Adverbial Adjectives and Nominal Scalarity at the Linguistics and Cognitive Science group of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC).

Between 2016 and 2022, she worked as a computational linguist for Google and as a lecturer at the Universitat de València (2020-2022) and at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (2017-2019).

Her research focuses on semantics and its interfaces with syntax and pragmatics, and on language acquisition. Specifically, he has worked on adjectival and adverbial modification and its relationship with gradability, vagueness and subjectivity. She is a member of the research group Bilingualism and Spanish Acquisition (BASLA, UIB) and the Sociolinguistic research group of the Balearic Islands (GRESIB).
