Eloi Bellés holds a BA in Catalan Philology (with honors) and a PhD in Linguistic, Literary, and Cultural Studies from the University of Barcelona. He is a lecturer in the Department of Catalan Philology and General Linguistics at the University of the Balearic Islands. Previously, he was a lecturer at the Autonomous University of Madrid and at the University of Barcelona. He has also been a course instructor in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities Studies at Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (Open University of Catalonia). His main research line focuses on the evolution of linguistic uses and ideologies concerning Catalan throughout the 19th century. Additionally, he has worked on issues related to the history of Catalan philology. Currently, he also studies the relationship between language, politics, and society in the contemporary world, with an interest in linguistic inequality and the ideological value of linguistic elements such as onomastics.
