Brief CV

Eloi Bellés holds a BA in Catalan Philology (Universitat de Barcelona, 2016, Extraordinary Bachelor's Award 2017) and a PhD in Linguistic, Literary, and Cultural Studies (Universitat de Barcelona, 2022, III Antoni M. Badia i Margarit Award for the Best Thesis in the Sphere of Humanities and Social Sciences, 2024).

Currently, Bellés is an associate professor at the Departament de Filologia Catalana i Lingüística General at the Universitat de les Illes Balears, where he lectures on Catalan Linguistics and Language Didactics. Before joining the UIB, he was a lecturer in Catalan Studies at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and a researcher and instructor at the Universitat de Barcelona. Bellés is also a course instructor at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya.

Bellés is a researcher at GRESIB (UIB) and a member of MIRCo research centre (UAM). He has focused his research on the study of language ideologies and attitudes, as well as the relationship between language, politics, and society. He has studied the evolution of language ideologies and language use of Catalan and Spanish in the public sphere throughout the 19th century, and has analysed the political significance of Catalan toponyms in public debate in the 21st century.
