Curriculum

Brief CV

I hold a degree in Biology from the University of Granada (2002) and a PhD in Biology from the University of the Balearic Islands (2015). I have carried out research stays at the British Natural History Museum (London, UK), the Australian Museum (Sydney, Australia), the Western Australian Museum (Perth, Australia), the Alberto Manuel Brenes Biological Reserve (Costa Rica), the Institute of Evolutionary Biology (CSIC, Barcelona), and the Neo-Caledonian Agronomic Institute (New Caledonia), funded by the Spanish Government, the European Union, and the National Geographic Society.

From 2009 to 2014, I was affiliated with the Mediterranean Institute for Advanced Studies (IMEDEA, CSIC) under research contracts, while also serving as an adjunct lecturer in the Department of Biology (Genetics) at the UIB. Since then, I have held several academic positions (assistant professor: 2015–2017, interim associate professor: 2017–2021, associate professor: 2021–2024), culminating in my current position as tenured university professor in 2024.

I have delivered over 2,000 teaching hours in the undergraduate degrees of Biochemistry and Biology, as well as in two official master’s programs (Master in Applied Biotechnology and Master in Biomedical Research). Since 2019, I have been the Principal Investigator (PI) of the Biodiversity, Systematics and Evolution research group at UIB. I have participated in 17 research projects (PI in 5 of them) and in 2 teaching innovation projects (PI in one). I hold two recognized six-year research periods and have authored more than 30 scientific publications in indexed, high-impact journals, focusing primarily on molecular phylogeny, systematics, taxonomy, biogeography, molecular species delimitation, metabarcoding, evolutionary ecology, and evolution.

I serve as a scientific reviewer for 17 prestigious academic journals. I have co-supervised 2 PhD theses and am currently supervising or co-supervising 4 more. In addition, I have supervised 20 undergraduate theses and 4 master’s theses.
