Dr. Yolanda Joy Calvo Benzies obtained a BA in English Studies at the University of Santiago de Compostela in 2008. In 2010 she completed an MA in English Studies at the same university. Yolanda Joy defended her PhD in January 2016 on the importance given to pronunciation in EFL classes in Spain. From 2011 to 2014 she had a three-year pre-doctoral grant awarded by the Xunta de Galicia. During this period, she taught several subjects within the BAs in English Philology and English Studies. Her main interests include the teaching of EFL, teaching speaking and English pronunciation, the use of ICTs applied to the teaching of English, new varieties of English (EIL, ELF, ESP) and innovative techniques for teaching languages (songs, games, role-plays, etc). She is currently working as a Tenure-track contract Lecturer with a PhD (Contratada Doctora Interina) within the Departamento de Filología Española, Moderna y Clásicas. She teaches ESP in the degree of Tourism and the double degrees of Economics + Tourism and Business Administration + Tourism. She is an assistant editor in the journals RAEL and ATLANTIS. She carried out a research stay at the University of Reading between February and May 2013. She has been part of the organising committee of several conferences (ICSE, INCICE y ELC4) and actively collaborated in the organization of ICELTL1, XXXIX SEL International Conference, ICAME34 and GALA13. She was one of the plenary speakers in the 2nd UPCEL Conference. She has presented in over 30 national and international conferences and she has over 15 articles / book chapters published.
