Brief CV

Nona Sheila Agawin Romualdo is professor at the Universitat de les Illes balears. Previously, she has had the prestigious postdoctoral contracts of the (1) Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness: Ramón y Cajal (2006-2011, Universitat de les Illes baleares) and Juan de la Cierva (2004-2006, Mediterranean Institute for Advanced Studies); (2) Marie-Curie Programme of the European Commission (2003-2004, Institute for biodiversity and Ecosystem Dynamics (IBED), University of Amsterdam); (3) Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (2002-2003, Ocean Sciences Center, University of Newfoundland).

Her predoctoral studies were financed by scholarships of projects of the European Union and of the Spanish Agency of International Cooperation and carried out in two insitutes of the Spanish Research Council (CSIC) (1996-2002, Center of Advanced Studies of Blanes (CEAB) and Mediterranean Institute of Advanced Studies (IMEDEA). Dr. Agawin did her PhD in Marine Sciences at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (2002) and her Master's degree with a grant from the Philippine Department of Science and Technology (1992-1995, Marine Science Institute, University of the Philippines, Philippines) with an 'Outstanding student of Master' award (1995). Dr. Agawin did her bachelor's degree in Molecular Biology and Biotechnoloy at the University of the Philippines (1991) with the cum laude honors and did her high school in Philippine Science High School (a specialized school for science managed by the Philippine Department of Science and Technology) with honors. In her primary education she had the honor of ''Valedictorian'- Award of Best academic record in City Central School (1983, Cagayan de Oro City, Philippines).

The intense research activity of Dr. Agawin that started when she was only 21 years old has resulted in the authorship of at least 51 international scientific publications with H-index: 30; i10-index: 40; 4369 citations (Google Scholar). In addition to the scientific publications, Dr. Agawin has attended at least 44 scientific congresses, 84% of international character.

Dr. Agawin has 5 six-year research periods (1992-1997, 1998-2003, 2004-2009, 2010-2015, 2016-2021) positively evaluated by the Advisory Committee of the CNEAI, 5 periods of teaching merits and updated periods of research activity and excellence in (remuneration supplements for stimulus and recognition of research activity by the AQUIB-Agència de Qualitat universitària de les Illes balears).

The subjects taught by Dra. Agawin are: In the degree of biology: Writing and execution of projects (Code 20128-theoretical-practical) and Global Ecology (code 20140- theoretical-practical). In the Masters in Marine Ecology: Phytoplankton Ecology (Code 10599- Theoretical-practical). Currently, Dr. Agawin is a member of the Academic Commission and of the Commission of Elaboration and Design (CED) of the Master and Doctorate programs in Marine Ecology and is the Director of the Masters in Marine Ecology of the University of the Balearic Islands.
