Brief CV

Sofia Moratinos Johnston is PhD assistant professor at the Department of Spanish, Modern and Classic Philologies of the University of the Balearic Islands. She teaches English Language Degree students and ESP for Engineering and Tourism undergraduates as well as Language Acquisition in Multilingual Contexts for postgraduate students. She received her BA in English Philology from the University of Barcelona in 1997 and also holds a Master's degree in European Studies (2000) from Leuven University.

Her research focuses on language learning motivation in different foreign language learning contexts, which include formal classroom instruction, CLIL/EMI and study abroad. She has published her research outcomes in high-rank international journals indexed in Journal Citation Reports and Scopus such as the Journal for Multilingual and Multicultural Development and also contributed chapters in monographs on EMI and study abroad.

Since 2013 she has been a collaborator of the Research Group in Applied Linguistics (REGAL) at the UIB. She has also participated in two state research projects. The first one is IntClass on language acquisition in multilingual and multicultural contexts funded by the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (FFI2013-48640-C2-2-P). More recently, she is part of the research team in INCLU-LINGUAM on inclusion in the internationalized university to promote equity, diversity and interculturality financed by MCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033/ and FEDER, EU.

Apart from her research at the UIB, she has also been a a visiting scholar in the Centre for Applied Linguistics (University of Warwick) and the School of Education (University of Birmingham).
