Jorge Sastre received his Bachelor degree in Biology (2007) and Bachelor degree in Biochemistry (2007) at the University of Balearic Islands (UIB). PhD thesis at UIB in July 2012, with the thesis entitled 'Importance of estrogen receptors in oxidative stress and cancer. Mitochondrial Function, Biogenesis and Dynamics.'
Senior Lecturer in the Biochemistry and Molecular Biology area of the Department of Fundamental Biology and Health Sciences at the UIB since April 2022, having previously held different teaching positions (Tenure-track contract Lecturer with a PhD from 2019 to 2022, Assistant Professor from 2018 to 2019 and Adjunct lecturer from 2015 to 2018).
He has recognized 2 five-year teaching periods, 2 six-year research periods (2007-2015 and 2016-2021), as well as the remuneration complements of stimulation and recognition to the teaching and the permanent training of the teacher; the research activity from the Balearic Government; and to research excellence and knowledge transfer.
He develops his main research 'Mitochondrial metabolism and oxidative stress. Implications in cancer' in the Multidisciplinary Group of Translational Oncology (GMOT) of IUNICS and IdISBa.
The research developed has been published in 42 scientific articles, as well as in 90 contributions to national and international scientific conferences. He has participated in 29 research projects at national or local level, 6 of them as principal investigator. In addition, it participates as co-IP in 4 Fundraising projects coordinated by the FUEIB or IdISBa.
