Dr. Joan Perelló is Associate Professor of Analytical Chemistry in the Department of Chemistry at the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB). He conducts his research at the University Institute of Health Sciences Research, in the Laboratory of Research on Renal Lithiasis and Biomineralization, as well as in the companies Sanifit Therapeutics and Conceptio Biotech, which are spin-offs of UIB.

His research activity has focused on the development of drugs for calcification disorders, the development of bioanalytical methods for clinically relevant molecules, and, in general, the study of pathological calcifications, particularly renal stones and cardiovascular calcifications.

The results of this research have been presented in 61 publications (H index = 24), 95 contributions at conferences, 55 research projects, and 16 patent families. He has been recognized with three six-year research periods, one six-year transfer period, and has supervised two doctoral theses.

He has received 35 awards for research and innovation, including the Special Mention in Innovation 2023 in the National Innovation and Design Awards of the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation. He has founded 2 academic spin-offs and led the pharmacological development of a molecule from preclinical stages to phase 3 clinical trials.

Joan is a co-founder and CEO of Sanifit Therapeutics, President of the Biotechnological and Biomedical Cluster of the Balearic Islands (BIOIB) since 2009, Vice-Dean of the Official College of Chemists of the Balearic Islands since 2008 and was a Trustee of the COTEC Foundation for Innovation from 2016 to 2019. Through Conceptio Biotech, a UIB spin-off, he serves as the President of CIRCE Crystal Engineering, President of Mexbrain, and Venture Partner at Ysios Capital.
