Joana Maria Ramis received her Bachelor degree in Pharmacy (1998) at the University of Barcelona (UB) and Biochemistry (2002) at the University of Balearic Islands (UIB). PhD student at the Department of Fundamental Biology and Health Sciences (UIB) from 1999 to 2003. PhD thesis in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (UIB, 2003). Visiting researcher in 1999, 2000 and 2001 (46 weeks) at the Department of Safety and Health of Food (RIKILT-WAGENINGEN-UR, The Netherlands). Post-doc at the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology-Pharmacy (UB, Spain) from December 2003 to June 2004, and at The Gurdon Institute (Cambridge University, United Kingdom) from July 2004 to June 2006 under a Marie Curie Intra-European Fellowship (6thFP). Research expert at the Health Department of the Balearic Government (2006-May 2009). R&D director at Numat Biomedical S.L. since June 2009 until December 2014. Adjunct Lecturer at the Department of Fundamental Biology and Health Sciences (UIB) from April 2011. Post-doctoral researcher (CAIB) at UIB since January 2015 until December 2016. Miguel Servet Researcher from January 2017 until September 2020. Lecturer (PCDi) at UIB from September 2020 to May 2022. Nowadays she is Senior Lecturer.
She has participated in the creation of 1 biotech company. Her research has resulted up to now in the publication of more than 60 research articles, more than 60 presentations to national and international conferences, and 3 patents. She has participated in 30 R&D projects (10 as principal investigator) and 21 contracts with companies. She acts as reviewer of scientific publications in international journals. She actively supervises PhD students and post-docs, with 8 directed PhD thesis. She has received several prizes related to her scientific work and entrepreneur activity.
Nowadays, her research is focused on the development of new therapies and technologies for cellular and tissue engineering and regenerative medicine and its translation to clinical practice; more specifically, in the approach to cell-free regenerative medicine through the use of extracellular vesicles derived from different cells types.
She has recognized 4 teaching five-year periods, 3 research six-year periods, as well as the remuneration complements of stimulation and recognition to the teaching and the permanent training of the teacher, the research activity and the research excellence and the technology transfer of knowledge from the Balearic Government.
