Brief CV

Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry (2003), Diploma of Advanced Studies (2006), and Master's Degree in Chemical Science and Technology (2007) from the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB), and intermediate music teacher (specializing in percussion) from the Royal Conservatory of Music of the Liceo in Barcelona (2002). Chemistry Research Award from the Balearic Islands Association of Chemists (2004). Postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Zurich, Switzerland (2009-2010).


Dr. Miquel Barceló has been teaching in the area of inorganic chemistry (Department of Chemistry) at the UIB since 2008 and as Associate Professor since September 19, 2017. His research is based on the study of the interactions of metal ions with molecules of biological interest, crystallography and, especially, nucleic acids. He is the Principal Investigator of the consolidated group of Bioinorganic and Bioorganic Chemistry.


He has published 93 research articles in high-impact journals, 5 conference proceedings, 2 reviews, and 2 book chapters, which have received 1,564 citations (the two most cited have 109 and 103 citations), and his H-index is 21.


He has presented more than 60 papers at conferences (mainly international), with an invited lecture at ICBIC-19 (Switzerland 2019) and oral presentations at EuroBIC-13 (Hungary 2016), ISABC-13 (Ireland 2015), EuroBIC-12 (Switzerland 2014), and the XI International Symposium on Inorganic Biochemistry (Poland 2010).


Principal investigator of four annual projects (Special R&D&I Actions) for the Government of the Balearic Islands (AAEE68/2015, AAEE3/2014, AAEE0145/2009, and AAEE019/2012), he has been part of the European COST CM1105 and CA18202 (NECTAR) and is currently part of the European action CA22107 (BESTCSP).


He has supervised 1 doctoral thesis, 5 master's theses, and 10 final degree projects. He has been recognized for 3 six-year periods of research and 3 five-year periods of teaching.
