Curriculum

Brief CV

Dr Montserrat Rodríguez Delgado is an Associate Professor of Inorganic Chemistry in the Department of Chemistry at the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB). After earning her degree in Chemistry (2000), she was awarded a predoctoral fellowship from the Ministry of Education to pursue a PhD (2004) under the supervision of Dr Carlos Otero Areán. Her doctoral thesis focused on the synthesis of mixed gallium-alumina, gallium-zirconia, and gallium-silica oxides, as well as the different polymorphic varieties of gallium oxide. Part of these doctoral studies were carried out at the University of Caen (France) under the supervision of Prof. J.C. Lavalley and at the University of Turin (Italy) under the supervision of Prof. C. Morterra.

After completing her PhD, she undertook two postdoctoral research periods at the University of Turin and the Complutense University of Madrid, in the research group of Prof. M. Vallet Regí, where she studied various aspects of the surface chemistry of porous metal oxides for biomedical applications. In 2006, she joined UIB as an assistant professor, and in 2009, she obtained a permanent position as an Associate Professor of Inorganic Chemistry.

Her research focuses on the study of porous materials for gas adsorption and the activation of absorbed molecules, as well as the retention of emerging environmental pollutants. She also works on the development of new composite nanobiomaterials for controlled drug release and a cell-free regenerative medicine approach using extracellular vesicles.

Since 2020, she has been involved in coordinating the ESTALQUIM Illes Balears project, a training and outreach programme aimed at fostering scientific vocations in young students.

Since 2020, she has also been a member of the Research Ethics Committee for Medicinal Products of the Balearic Islands (CEIm-IB).

From 2014 to 2020, she served as Secretary of the Chemistry Degree Studies Council. From February 2020 to June 2021, she held the position of Vice-Dean and Head of Chemistry Studies at the Faculty of Science. In June 2021, she began her role as Director of the Research Area, where she continues to work today.
