Research

During the last year of the studies of Industrial Engineering, Victor Martinez worked as an intern in the department of Heat Engines of the Polytechnic School of Industrial Engineering of Terrassa, in the development of models of flame fronts in internal combustion engines.

After spending a year in Mallorca finishing his degree thesis on this issue, he joined the Area of Mechanical Engineering at the Polytechnic School of the University of Girona as a research fellow and there he developed his doctoral thesis, dedicated to the study of mechanical joints of the composite materials used in the base of the blades of large wind turbines. The main techniques used for that study were the structural analysis by the finite element method, characterization of mechanical properties of composite materials and structural testing of mechanical elements.

In 2002 he joined the Mechanical Engineering Area of the Pysics Department of the UIB, where he has been lecturing and conducting research to date. Since joining the University of the Balearic Islands his main field of research has been the development and testing of solar thermal concentrating collectors. The main result of this activity is the development of the so called CCStaR collector, a concentrating collector capable of  working at temperatures of up to 200°C without moving the concentrating reflector, which facilitates its integration on building roofs. Alongside this main task, he collaborates on research related to energy efficiency in buildings.

Teaching

Since 1992, Victor Martinez has developed teaching tasks related to the areas of Graphical Expression in Engineering, Thermal Engineering and Mechanical Engineering.

Since the introduction of the new ECTS system in Spain, the subjects taught include: Mechanical Systems, Graphic Expression and Computer Aided Design and Engineering Thermal Energy (all three included in the Degree of Automation and Industrial Electronics Engineering), Fundamentals of Installations (Degree of Building Engineering) and Finite Element Simulation from the Master of Advanced Physics and Applied Mathematics.
