Llorenç Valverde (lvalverde@uib.cat) has a degree in mathematics (1976) from the University of Barcelona and a PhD in computer science (1982) from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. Full Professor at the Universitat de les Illes Balears since 1989, he has been head of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science from 1994 to 2003. From January 2006 to July 2013 he has been Vice President of Technology at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya. In 1985, won the Barcelona Award for Studies and Research in Cognitive Science and logic, while a professor at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, where he became a full professor in 1988. He has been researching in several universities and research centers Europe and the United States. His research activity has focused on the study of models for approximate and default reasoning. He is author and co-author of numerous scientific articles and editor of several books published by prestigious specialized publishers. His teaching has focused mainly on subjects related mathematical methods in the degrees Architecture, Computing and Mathematics.

He has published several works on the new relationships between technology, culture and education have established digitization and expansion of the Internet. He is the author of several books of scientific and technical disclosure, the last of which was published by Editorial UOC with the title 'Seven failures that have changed the world: From dishwasher to mobile' (2014) (Spanish and Catalan).
