Ph.D. Onofre Martorell is a Full Professor of Financial Economics at the Department of Business Economics. He has been a lecturer at UIB (University of the Balearic Islands) since 1993. He is the Dean-President of the Illustrious Official Association of Economists of the Balearic Islands, Vice President of the Sa Nostra Foundation, Delegate of the University at the University School of Hospitality in the Balearic Islands, and Director of the University Master's Programs in Service Business Management (MBA) and Master in Tourism Administration (MTA), both at UIB. He is a Numerary Academic of the Royal Academy of Economic and Financial Sciences of Spain and member of the European Academy of Doctors.

He is specialized in Corporate Finance and growth strategies in the hotel industry. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Economics and Business and also a Master's degree in Financial Management from the Center for Financial Studies in Madrid. He earned his Ph.D. with honors, Cum Laude, with a thesis titled 'Hotel Chains: A Model of Business Growth,' proposed for an Extraordinary Doctorate Award. His research contributions have been recognized with four six-year research cycles (3 for research and 1 for transfer of knowledge) and 6 research awards, including the award for the best research article in tourism presented by the Association of Scientific Experts in Tourism (AECIT) on two occasions.

He has authored over a hundred scientific publications, including numerous scientific articles in high-impact international journals, books, book chapters, and presentations at national and international conferences. He has successfully published articles in prestigious journals such as Tourism Management, International Journal of Hospitality Management, Expert System with Applications, Cornell Hospitality Quarterly, Journal of Business Research, Tourism Economics, and more. He has also published 6 books, with notable works such as 'The Growth Strategies of Hotel Chains,' published by Haworth in New York, USA, in 2006, and later reprint in Chinese language for distribution in the Asian country by Tourism Education Press in China in 2007. Another significant book is 'Hotel Chains: Analysis of the Top 10,' edited by Ariel in 2002.

He has participated in 14 competitive scientific research projects at the European, national, and regional levels and has been involved in the development of the Economic and Financial Dictionary. He has led the Research Group 'Management and Governance of Business and Tourist Destinations' registered in UIB's catalog and has supervised 3 doctoral theses. Currently, he is a member of the Editorial Board of the International Journal Tourism Economics, published by Sage Publishing (JCR Q1 and SJR top decile), and has served on 50 courts.

In the field of university management, he has held positions as Director of the University School of Tourism of the Island Council of Ibiza, as an affiliate center of UIB, for the past 10 years; Director of the University School of Tourism Felipe Moreno; Founding Academic Secretary of the School of Hospitality of the Balearic Islands, and Secretary of the Department of Business Economics.
