Curriculum
Brief CV
Jaume Pons (Inca, Mallorca, 1966) graduated in Physics at the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB) in 1988 and he obtained the Ph.D. degree in Physics at the same university in 1992. After a postdoctoral fellowship in 1993 at the École Nationale Supérieure de Chimie de Paris and the Centre d'Études de Chimie Métallurgique-CNRS (France), in 1994 he won a position of Associate Professor at the Department of Physics of the UIB. He is now Professor of Applied Physics since 2011.
His research activity has been carried out within the research group of Physics of Materials at UIB. The main research lines are solid state phase transitions, particularly in shape memory alloys (conventional and magnetic). He specialized in the structural and microstructural characterization of materials, mainly by conventional and high resolution transmission electron microscopy. The research work has been developed in the framework of 22 competitive research projects: 15 from the Spanish government (5 as Principal Investigator), 3 from the EU and 4 from regional governments. Jaume Pons has co-authored more than 130 publications in international journals indexed in the Physical Metallurgy, Materials Science or Applied Physics categories of the Journal of Citation Reports (WoS ResearcherID: M-3809-2018, ORCID ID: 0000-0002-3891-4145), and has presented over 100 conference papers.
Jaume Pons has 25 years of teaching experience as responsible of undergraduate and graduate courses. He has supervised 3 Ph.D. theses and two more in process. Has been director of the Master's degree in Physics (now extinguished) at UIB from 2008 till 2014. He is now director the Master's degree in Advanced Physics and Applied Mathematics at UIB since 2016.
He served as Secretary of the Physics Department at UIB from 1999 till 2004 and as member of the executive board (treasurer) of the Spanish Microscopy Society from 2007 till 2017.
