Brief CV
Rafel was born in Sa Pobla (1962) and holds a PhD. by the Universitat Autonoma of Barcelona.
Rafel teaches strategic management, family business, big data and business management & family business in the tourism sector at the Universistat de les Illes Balears, in Mallorca, Spain. He is the coordinator director at the UIB of the joint university doctorate DEMO (Doctorate in Economics Management and Organization) with the Universidad Pública de Navarra (UPNA) and the Unviersitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB). Rafel acts as the Principal Investigator an coordinator of the granted project Firm competitiveness: innovation and internal organization with the UAB, UPNA and University of Zaragoza.
He serves as the director of CBMEF, the Banca March Family Business Chair in associaton with the IEF, the Family Firms Institute and the ABEF, the Balear Association of Family Business. Rafel's research interests concern empirical corporate governance issues in organizations with a particular focus on family firms. Recently published work has appeared in Family Business Review, Strategic Management Journal, Journal of Banking and Finance, Corporate Governance International Review, Journal of Accounting and Public Policy, Journal of World Business, Journal of Corporate Finance and Journal of Family Business Strategy.
Rafel serves on the reviewers board of the Family Business Review. Additionally, Rafel is member of the committee of prize Antonio Dionis Soler, sponsored by the FEF, Fundación de Estudios Financieros.
Prior to joining the Universitat de les Illes Balears, Rafel was a member of the faculty at the Universitat Autonoma of Barcelona and the Universitat Pompeu Fabra. He also has visited as researcher Tilbur University, Unviersity of Oxford, Cambridge University and University of Illinios at Urbana Champaign. He has been visiting professor at IE Business School in Madrid.

Consultant for many projexts in the private secotr ranging from viability projects on the hotel industry in Catalonia, Sapin, Madrid, Sevilla or projects on promotion of industrial areas for the regional govenrment of Balearic Islands, also reporting on the impact of the Savings Banks in the international context or the economic viability of the Conference Palace in Palma de Mallorca propoted by the regional governament and the Palma Citiy Council.
Memeber of the Social Sciences commitee of the AQU, the Catalan agency for the quality of the university system, evaluating the acreditation or professors and researchers. 2010-2015.
Conference Organizer of the ACEDE 2002 meeting in Palma de Mallorca at the UIB.
Co-ordinator for the Spanish team of the European Corporate Governance Network in the main area of Institutions and economic Growth in Post-war Europe in connection with the CEPR (Center for Economic Policy Research) and Sponsored by the Directorate General for Industry of the Commission of the European Communities.
