Pedro Montoya has a degree in Psychology from the Complutense University (1981-1986) and a PhD in Psychology from the Ludwig-Maximilians University in Munich (Germany) (1987-1993), as well as Full-Professor of Psychobiology at the University of the Balearic Islands (2009 - present). He completed his postdoctoral training at the Eberhard-Karls University of Tübingen (Germany) (1993-1997) with Prof. Dr. Niels Birbaumer. Since 1997, he has been a professor and researcher at the Department of Psychology and the University Institute for Research in Health Sciences (IUNICS) of the University of the Balearic Islands and the Government of the Balearic Islands. In addition, he has been visiting professor at Northwestern University (USA) (2006-2007), University of Tübingen (Germany) (2013), Universidade Federal de Bahia (Brazil) (2014-2017) and, since 2021, at Federal University of ABC (São Paulo, Brazil). His line of research explores the functional changes that occur in the brain as a result of chronic pain. To do this, he combines techniques for the study of behavior from Experimental Psychology and for the study of brain activity (EEG, fMRI) from Neurophysiology and Neurology. He has published more than 130 articles in high-impact scientific journals (Google Scholar h-index=48; Scopus h-index=36; WoS h-index=35) and has obtained funding through numerous projects of the National R&D Plan and the Ministry of Health of the Government of Spain and the autonomous community of the Balearic Islands, as well as competitive projects from private foundations. He has directed more than 40 doctoral and master's theses on Neurosciences, Pain and Psychology.
