Brief CV
Loren Carrasco Martorell was born in Puigpunyent, Mallorca in 1968. She obtained her degree in Telecommunications Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC) in 1991 and her doctorate in computer science from the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB) in 2005.
During the years 1990 and 1991, she finished her engineering studies at the École Nationale Superieure des Telecommunications in Paris where she did her final degree project. From 1992 to 1995 she worked as a junior engineer at the Telefónica R&D center in Madrid. Since 1997, she has been a member of the Department of Mathematics and Informatics at the UIB and is currently an associate professor in this department.
Since 1995 she has held various management positions within the UIB. She was deputy director of the UIB faculty of engineering and head of studies for the degree in telematics engineering from 2008 to 2016. From 2016 to 2021 she was dean of this same faculty and currently she is vice rector of innovation and digital transformation of the UIB.
She has taught in undergraduate courses in telematics and computer engineering studies and in various master's degrees (master's degree in information technology and telecommunications, master's degree in telecommunications engineering)
Her research interests and activities are concentrated in wireless communications systems, with a very special emphasis on interlayer design, resource management, and planning strategies applied to advanced wireless communications networks. She is currently working in the field of wireless body area networks. On these issues she has published more than 30 articles in magazines and conferences of recognized international prestige, obtaining 4 awards for best contribution in national and international conferences.
Dr. Carrasco has participated in 3 international projects financed by the European Commission, 8 national projects and 4 regional projects in the field of wireless communications.
She is a member of the research group GCM (Mobile Communications group) of the UIB and of the research group E-HEALTH-TELEMEDICINA (e-Health and Multidisciplinary Telemedicine through intelligent cyber-physical systems) within the IdISBa.
