Brief CV
Dr. Lucrecia Burges Cruz has a solid academic and research trajectory, endorsed by three recognized research periods (sexenios) by the CNEAI. Her research and teaching areas focus on Practical Philosophy, Moral Philosophy, Evolutionary Epistemology, and Gender Studies, with a particular interest in the origin and evolution of moral capacity and the study of distinctly human concepts such as altruism.
Her work has been published in specialized journals such as Ludus Vitalis, Perceptual and Motor Skills, Contextos, Laguna, and History and Philosophy of the Life Sciences. She has completed nine research stays at the University of California, Irvine (UCI), between 2001 and 2024. Among her distinctions, she received the VI Research Award in Development Cooperation for her project "Altruism and Gender: What motivates the sending of remittances?"
Dr. Burges is a member of the Practical Philosophy Research Group (PRAXIS) at the UIB and directs the Human Systematics Laboratory (LSH) at the Universitat de les Illes Balears. She has participated as a researcher in thirteen funded R&D+i projects and is the principal investigator of the project "Biological Reproduction, Social Reproduction, and Public Sphere" (REPRODUCE, PID2020-115079RB-I00).
In the field of teaching, she has been a professor in the Department of Philosophy and Social Work at the UIB since 1997. She has taught subjects such as Anthropology, Social and Cultural Anthropology, Gender and Society, Ethics and Values, Human Cognition, Philosophy of Mind, Feminism and Social Transformation, Brain Evolution, Language Evolution, Gender Roles in Contemporary Societies, Methodology for the Study of Philosophy, and Current Developments in Ethical Theory. She has also contributed to the Open University and Open University for Seniors programs at the UIB.
Throughout her career, she has been deeply involved in management, training, and pedagogical innovation, as well as in the transfer of knowledge to society. Currently, she serves as the President of the UIB's Committee on Coexistence and as the rector's delegate on the Social Table for the Sustainability Pact of the Balearic Islands.
