Brief CV
Dr. Sebastián Albertí has a BS (1989) and a PhD (1994) in Biology from the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB). He completed postdoctoral stays at the Harvard University School of Medicine (1994-1997), at the Department of Microbiology at the University of Barcelona (1997-1998), at the Department of Biology at the UIB (1998-1999) and established his own research group in the Research Unit of the Son Dureta University Hospital (1999-2003) with a Miguel Servet contract of the Instituto de Salud Carlos III. He moved to the UIB in 2003 as Associate Professor of Microbiology, where he is currently Professor of Microbiology since 2011.
Throughout these years, Dr. S. Albertí's research lines have focused on the study of the biology of the bacterial infections, mainly in two fields; the bacterial virulence factors and their interactions with the human immune innate system components and, the antimicrobial resistance mechanisms of clinically relevant pathogens. In the first topic, Dr. Alberti has published 50 articles (25 as first or corresponding author) in top journals of the microbiology and infectious diseases categories. These manuscripts have received a total of 4071 citations, highlighting those studies focused on the interaction with the complement proteins and Klebsiella pneumoniae or Streptococcus pyogenes, as well as the studies on the interaction of the epithelial cells with Pseudomonas aeruginosa or S. pyogenes. Most cited manuscripts in this topic are:

The research lines of Dr. Alberti have been financed by public and private, national and international institutions, continuously since 1999. In this period, he has been PI of 12 competitive projects of the Spanish Government (SAF or FIS). He has supervised 10 doctoral theses and two more are in progress.
Dr. Sebastián Albertí is Director of the Scientific-Technical Services of the University of the Balearic Islands since January 2005 and Manager of the State Research Agency (Biomedicine Area) since July 2018. In addition, he has been President of the Committee on Animal Research and Ethics 2012-2018) and member of the Executive Committee of the Spanish Network for Research in Infectious Pathology.
