Eloi Bellés holds a BA in Catalan Philology and a PhD in Linguistic, Literary, and Cultural Studies from the Universitat de Barcelona. He is currently an associate professor at the Department of Catalan Philology and General Linguistics at the University of the Balearic Islands, where he lectures on Catalan linguistics and language teaching. He is also a course instructor at the Faculty of Arts of the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya.

In his role as a researcher, Bellés is a member of GRESIB (UIB). He does research on language ideologies in a broad sense, with a focus on the sociolinguistic history of Catalan and Spanish and on public discourses about language. He is also interested in the work of Pompeu Fabra.
