J. Gabriel Romero is Associate Professor at the Department of Applied Economics at the University of the Balearic Islands. Gabriel received his PhD in Economics from the University of Alicante (Spain) in 2008 and he was Assistant Professor at the University of Santiago de Chile (Chile) from 2008 to 2019.

Gabriel's research interests include economics of education, health and the economics of international migration. His work has examined the impacts of skilled migration on human capital and income distribution in source countries and the effects of unskilled immigration on home countries. He has also studied how the exposure to negative unexpected shocks affects health at birth. His research has been published in European Journal of Political Economy, Quantitative Economics, Economics and Human Biology, among others.
