Throughout his career, he has obtained 10 fellowships and research contracts awarded by a competitive procedure, and have participated in 14 research projects. He has enjoyed research stays at Kew Botanic Gardens (Surrey, Reino Unido), the Institute of Pacific Islands Forestry (Hawaii, EE.UU) and the Department of Integrative Biology (University of California, Berkeley, EE.UU.), among others, at the international level; and at the Real Jardín Botánico de Madrid-CSIC, the Jardín Botánico Canario 'Viera y Clavijo'-Unidad Asociada CSIC, and the Jardín Botánico Atlántico at the national level.
Concerning teaching activities, he has been a member of the Educational staff of the Real Jardín Botánico de Madrid, and delivered lectures related to Botany and Evolutionary Biology in Bachellor and MSc courses. He has acted as advisor of students at all academic levels, including supervision of BSc, MSc and PhD theses.
