Curriculum
Brief CV
Miquel Miró Nicolau holds a degree in Computer Engineering (2018), a Master’s in Intelligent Systems (2020), and a PhD in Information and Communication Technologies (2024), all from the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB).
His PhD thesis, titled XAI 4 MIA: eXplainable Artificial Intelligence for Medical Image Analysis, focused on advancing the application of explainable AI (XAI) in the medical domain, an area where reliability and transparency are crucial. To address the limitations of existing XAI methods, Miquel and his collaborators proposed a set of novel approaches to objectively evaluate post-hoc XAI methods, meta-evaluate fidelity metrics and assess user trust in automated decision systems.
His current research builds on the foundations laid during his PhD, with the aim of further improving the evaluation of post-hoc XAI techniques. He seeks to enrich the field by integrating insights from related areas such as social sciences, adversarial robustness, and the challenges posed by out-of-distribution data.
