    Brief CV

    Professor Francisco Javier Pérez Pareja was born in Madrid in 1955. He obtained the Bachelor with Grade in Psychology in the Autonomous University of Madrid with a study focused on 'the response biases due to sincerity and social desirability of behavioral self-reports' in 1980. He was supervised by Prof. Rocio Fernández Ballesteros, Past President of the European Association of Psychological Assessment.

    Prof. Perez-Pareja obtained his PhD in Psychology by Autonomous University of Madrid in 1988, with the study entitled: 'The effects of the application of behavioral therapy applied by parents in the prevention of behavioral problems in children in Madrid'. His PhD was supervised by prof. Jose Antonio Carrobles. From this work was derived a book, 'School of Parents'.

    From November 1980 to 1988, he had a contract as a teacher in the leveling ATS course to Diploma in Nursing as responsible for the area of Behavioral Sciences. In those years Dr. Pérez-Pareja participated as co-author in the book 'Behavioral Sciences' which is considered a pioneer in the field of Health Psychology by authors such as Buela Casal. In 1988 he moved to the University of Balearic Islands (UIB) where he initially worked as an interim professor. In the first years, in addition to teaching in Psychological Assessment and Health Psychology, he dedicated his efforts both from academic positions (deputy director and director of the Department of Psychology) and from his daily work in consolidating the Department and increase its prestige.

    In the beginning, his works are mainly oriented towards the psychological evaluation process, its biases, its methodological problems and the construction of instruments and measurement procedures from a behavioral perspective. This stage is characterized by the influence of her teacher and mentor Rocío Fernández Ballesteros with whom she works thanks to the obtaining of a research scholarship dedicated to the study of the problems of institutionalized elders. This brief stage ends with the beginning of the doctoral thesis work by his teacher and friend Professor Jose Antonio Carrobles, who will mark the rest of his academic life. Under the influence of Professor Carrobles and under the auspices of Patterson, he started definitively in the field of evaluation and intervention in the field of Health Psychology. From that moment his main lines of research have focused on: Epidemiology and prevention of childhood problems; Health Psychology (digestive problems, premenstrual syndrome, chronic pain, fibromyalgia, infertility, post-infarcted, addictions / tobacco); Schizophrenia: Early detection of dementias and Psychology of Emergencies.

    Prof. Perez-Pareja has written more than a hundred scientific articles, chapters of books and books, and has more than 200 participations in Congresses, Seminars and Conferences. Also he has organized and participated as a member of the Scientific Committee and/or Local Organizer in more than 50 Congresses, Seminars and Conferences.

    Dr. Pérez-Pareja is member of the Spanish Society for the Study of Anxiety and Stress (SEAS) (Past Deputy President), the current President of the Balear Association for the promotion of the Clinical and Health Psychology (ABAPSICS), and STAR member since 1994. He is also member of the editorial board of several journals: Stress and Anxiety, Psychopathology and Clinical Psychology Journal, and Clinical Psychology. He is a reputed reviewer and member of the experts' panel of the Agency for the Quality Assessment of Spanish Universities. Prof. Pérez-Pareja is professor of two relevant Spanish masters: 'Emotions, Anxiety, Stress, and Emotional Intelligence' (Complutense University of Madrid), and 'Psychopathology and Health Psychology' (National Distance Education University).

    Lifetime Achievement Award granted in 2019 by the Stress and Anxiety Research Society (STAR).
