Brief CV

Current Position:

Dra, Francisca Barceló is a Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (since 2009) in the University of the Balearic Islands in Palma of Mallorca (Spain).

Research area of interest: Her interests are in the physical biochemistry of nucleic acids and biomembranes and their interactions.

Research Fields: Structure/Function relationships in: (i) drug-DNA and (ii) bioactive compounds-model membrane interactions.

Topics:

1- Molecular bases of the antitumoral activity: Interaction of antitumoral drugs and oligonucleotides with nucleic acids.

2- Membrane structure and its function in the cell signalling. Lipid-lipid and peptide-lipid interactions in model membrane systems.

Technical experience and Skills: Differential scanning calorimetry, fluorescence spectroscopy, Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (P-31) and Small and Wide-Angle (SAXS and WAXS) X-ray diffraction analysis.

She has participated in 25 competitive projects and published 50 papers in international journals (with SCI). She is co-author of 1 book chapter in the topic drug-DNA interactions and author of 1 text book in the topic Instrumental Techniques in Biology.
