Brief CV

Mercedes Laguens has been an Associate Professor in the Department of Pedagogy and Didactics at the University of the Balearics Islands since 1997. There she is a professor of art education for the masters degree in primary studies. Since the programs inception, she has participed as a teacher in the Post-Graduate level of the University's Human Development and Creative Studies with a concentration in Art Therapy.

While studying in the University of Barcelona from 1976-1979, she developed her artistic vein, focusing on painting, sculpture work and printmaking. After graduating with a degree in Fine Arts in 1979 she went on to show her individual and collective artworks at exhibitions in Palma, Bercelona, Madrid, Zaragoza, Valencia and La Havana. She has also had private and public works in the Reina Sofia Museum and in La Caixa.
She has participated in diverse art workshops of engraving on various occasions for the Pilar and Joan Mirˇ Foundation of Majorca and has developed further projects in Edinburg and Milton Keynes.
In 2004 she published the book Desde otro lugar, in Calima Editions, which consisted of a collection of writings, drawings and lectures accompanied by her paintings. She also illustrated the books DUELLUM by Joan Planas and the Mem˛ria en colors by Isabel Ribot.
She received an honorable mention at the 1997 "Pilar Juncosa and Sotheby's" award ceremony for the Pilar and Joan Mirˇ Foundation and in 2001 she received the same special award during the Ciutat de Palma Awards of Arts.

She was ample experience in training and developing others teachers in activities wich take place at CEP, the ICE and the courses of the SAC at the UIB. These courses involved artistic education, engraving and artistics books. She was a permanent secondary teacher at a public school for ten years and she gave lessons at the Balearic School of Design from 1988-19993.
She considers creativity and art an important learning tool for the formation of future professors and for this she has created multiple didactic projects, such as the "Libro de Artista".
