In accordance with that which is established in article 16 of Royal Decree 1393/2007:
In order to be eligible to access the official Master's degree programme in socio-educational intervention with minors and families, applicants must be in possession of an official Spanish degree or another degree issued by an institution of higher education in the European Higher Education Area that allows for the holder of the degree to access Master's-level studies in the issuing country.
Additionally, degrees from education systems outside of the European Higher Education Area can also be used to grant access without having to have the degrees officially validated as long as the university confirms that they accredit that the holder has a level of education equivalent to that which would have been provided by an official Spanish degree and the degrees allow the holders to access postgraduate study programmes in the issuing country. Accessing the Master's programme via this method in no way implies the homologation of the interested party's degree, nor does it provide any kind of recognition other than to provide access to Master's studies.
Applicants must register, either online or in person, with the person in charge of postgraduate administrative services. If applicants did not complete their undergraduate studies at the UIB, they must present a certified photocopy of the documents accrediting their degree and an academic transcript from the university where they received their degree.
The Academic Committee of the Master's programme will consider the applications that are submitted as well as validations and credit recognition. They will assess the merits of each candidate.
Students will be admitted to the Master's programme according to the following criteria:
- Those with licentiate, associate, or bachelor's degrees in educational (pedagogy, social education, teaching, and psychopedagogy) or social (social work, sociology, and anthropology) fields will be considered first (80 points);
- Accredited training by universities or official entities in matters related to minors and families will be considered a merit for admission to this programme (10 points);
- Accredited professional experience in services and programmes for minors and families will be considered a merit for admission to this programme (5 points); and
- Accredited publications and research on minors and families will be considered a merit for admission to this programme (5 points).
The basic objective of this Master's programme is to provide students, via the various social and educational sciences, with a systematic education in all of the structural and dynamic elements of the family and in socio-educational intervention strategies for minors and families in such a way that students can take on doctorate-level studies in this field with a solid interdisciplinary base, respond to the scientific and technical demands of intervention that services and institutions in this field require, and be prepared for the professional world that exists in this environment.
- Facilitate the acquisition of knowledge in the areas necessary to carry out family interventions. Enable students to make diagnoses of family situations and relationships in all of the various stages of the life cycle.
- Train students to professionally perform professional interventions. Enable them to design, develop, and evaluate various intervention strategies.
- Provide an education that enables students to carry out future professional research on family interventions and introduces them to basic and applied research on the various forms of cohabitation, their characteristics, changes, and factors that explain them.
- Guide students on how to access career development for family intervention in both the public and private sectors. Open new career prospects in the field of family counselling.
- Make students aware of why, in practice, the basic rights and the equality between men and women are respected, as well as the principles of equal opportunity and universal access for people with disabilities, the values inherent in a culture of peace, and democratic values.
In accordance with the descriptors from the Spanish version of the Qualifications Framework in the European Higher Education Area (MECES, by its Spanish initials), in the education provided by the Master's degree programme in socio-educational intervention with minors and families, it is guaranteed that students:
- G-1. Will have and understand the knowledge that defines minors and families as an interdisciplinary area involving various scientific fields (pedagogy, psychology, sociology, law, and others) and their theories, methods, and areas of intervention at a level that is supported by advanced scientific literature and even some knowledge stemming from the forefront of this field of study and intervention.
- G-2. Will be able to demonstrate that they know how to apply this knowledge to minors and families in a way that is professional by creating and defending arguments, and also identifying, presenting, and solving educational, psychopedagogical, and social problems. That is to say, they will be enabled to work as specialists, and their work will focus on developing basic rights and those of equality between men and women, the principles of equal opportunity and universal access to people with disabilities, the values of a culture of peace, and democratic values.
- G-3. Will have the ability to gather and interpret relevant data regarding the behaviour of families and the structures and dynamics of families, as well as the context in which they are produced, in order to make basic judgements about educational, psychopedagogical, and social problems in this field of study and intervention.
- G-4. Will be able to transmit information, ideas, problems, and solutions on issues related to human behaviour, both to specialized audiences and to the general public.
- G-5. Will have developed the learning abilities needed to continue their studies with a high level of autonomy, especially in order to improve their professional skills or to begin doctorate studies, which will provide them with an advanced education directed at the academic or research-based specialization in this field of study and intervention.
Graduates from this Master's programme must be able to demonstrate their level of knowledge on and understanding of the following basic concepts in the field of study on minors and families:
- E-1.1. The contributions and limitations of the main theoretical models of sociology and pedagogy on socio-educational and psychopedagogical customs.
- E-1.2. The main contributions of other customs, especially those related to law, to the understanding of minors and families.
- E-1.3. The historical foundations of the forms of cohabitation and the conceptions of childhood.
- E-1.4. The cultural factors and psychosocial principles that affect individual behaviour as well as the family structure and family dynamics.
- E-1.5. Main research methods and designs and advanced data analysis techniques.
- E-1.6. Various methods and instruments for carrying out assessments and diagnoses in different fields related to minors and families.
- E-1.7. Various assessment methods and procedures for programmes and services in various contexts: educational, social services, organizational, and communal.
Graduates from this Master's programme must be able to show that they have the capacities that allow them to apply their acquired knowledge. These capacities include the following:
- E-2.1. Being able to analyse and identify the risks, needs, and demands of target audiences, whether individuals or families, in different practical contexts from a networking perspective.
- E-2.2. Being able to set up performance targets or objectives for minors and families in different contexts, creating and adjusting them depending on the needs and demands of the recipients and those affected. Also, being able to draw up an intervention plan and techniques and assess their results.
- E-2.3. Choosing and utilizing specific and unique techniques and instruments in interventions with minors and families and being able to evaluate the intervention.
- E-2.4. Being able to cause effective change, via unique and specific socio-educational intervention methods, in individuals and families in various contexts (educational, social services, organizational, and communal) with special attention to methods that promote basic rights, equality between men and women, the principles of equal opportunity and access to persons with disabilities, the values of a culture of peace, and democratic values.
- E-2.5. Appropriately and precisely communicating the results of an assessment, actions to be taken, and results of the process to the target audience.
- E-2.6. Create socio-educational reports in the various areas in which action can be taken, addressed to recipients, other professionals, and services.
The Master's programme provides all of these professional competences, both general and specific.
Students in posession of the official Master's degree in socio-educational intervention with minors and families have two main options:
- Request admission in third cycle studies which allow students to obtain a doctorate degree and, especially, the education programmes (early childhood, minors, and family) at this level at the UIB; and
- Enter the professional world: basic and specialized social services; public service; social or private initiatives; early childhood services and those directed toward adolescents and/or families both from a preventative as well as a socio-educational-intervention perspective; and educational and cultural services that develop programmes for children, adolescents, and/or families.
This Master's programme uses blended learning, according to the UIB, employing online environments and other supporting media to help with teaching as well as in-person classroom learning. The UIB's online platform, Campus Extens (developed using Moodle), will be the common medium for communications between professors and students. The teaching in the professional pathway is carried out in-person in social services centres and education centres with which agreements have been set up.
Students will have access to the Campus Extens platform once courses begin.
Public presentation and defence of the Master's thesis.
It is carried out using a process of continuous assessment, which is detailed in the each course syllabus in the subjects section.
