Protocol and events organisation have nowadays taken on a major role at both public institutions and private organisations, especially when it comes to internal and external event planning and the final image of the institution. On the one hand, protocol establishes a snapshot of organisations and their interactions, using careful staging with complex technical and artistic steps that express messages and values organisations wish to transmit to their target audience. On the other, events generate brand experience and become a tool that provides direct added value for relationships between organisations and their public. Professionals and academics see events as (1) a tool in relationship strategy between organisations and their audience and (2) an internal and external visibility tool for corporate image and reputation, since they represent direct communication of a reality and not only provide image and value, but also transparency. This is why organisations see them as a powerful marketing tool. In this vein, the degree curriculum includes two professional pathways in the fourth year (protocol and events management) to specifically target the demand from each of these two areas.

The curriculum has been crafted in line with both acquiring skills and the structural principles of official degree programmes at the UIB. In terms of knowledge branch, the programme falls under legal and social sciences. Regarding degree regulations, what is set out in REGULATORY AGREEMENT 10040/2011 of 22nd November approving the Official University Education Regulations (Bachelor's and Master's Degrees) at the University of the Balearic Islands applies.

The curriculum has a total of 240 ECTS credits, split over four years covering 60 credits each, with each year divided into two 30-credit semesters. Without wanting to define specialities, the fourth year offers two professional pathways corresponding to the two large professional areas covered by the programme: protocol practice and professional events management. On the one hand, protocol is an essential element for social, institutional and corporate relations. On the other, professional events management is a requirement of a community, here the Balearics, which has become a host for all kinds of events with their corresponding economic impact. Students will need to take a total of 24 credits on the pathway to be awarded the corresponding major.
