Brief CV

Cayruã Chaves Fonseca is a Visiting Professor in the Department of Applied Economics at the Universitat de les Illes Balears, where he teaches courses in Microeconomics and the Economic Evaluation of Projects. He earned his Ph.D. in Economics from CEMFI in Madrid. Prior to his doctoral studies, he completed his Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering at the Universidade Federal de Viçosa, Brazil. During his Bachelor's program, he also studied abroad at the University of New South Wales in Australia, and the University of West Florida in the US. He is an applied microeconomist with interests in the intersection of digital economics, cultural economics, and urban economics. His recent work studies the role of cultural norms in shaping consumer behavior in the digital economy. Additionally, his research investigates how the rise of short-term rental and home-sharing platforms affects housing markets and the dynamics of urban neighborhoods.
