Elga Cremades holds a PhD in Humanistic Studies (Language, Literature, and Culture program) from Rovira i Virgili University, where she focused her dissertation on the argument structure of nominals in Catalan.

Before joining UIB, she was an assistant professor of Catalan linguistics at Masaryk University in Brno and an instructional assistant professor of Catalan studies at the University of Chicago. She also previously worked as an adjunct professor at Rovira i Virgili University.

Her research focuses on Catalan syntax, sociolinguistics, language teaching, and clinical linguistics. In syntax, she investigates argument structure and the interaction between prescriptive and descriptive grammar. Her sociolinguistic work explores linguistic landscapes, language insecurity, and the attitudes and ideologies of young speakers. In language teaching, she focuses on innovative methodologies and learner corpus research for Catalan as an additional language. Finally, in clinical linguistics, she studies syntactic patterns in individuals with Williams syndrome.
