Brief CV

Graduated in Biology in 2005 and Biochemistry (with extraordinary degree award) in 2007 by the UIB, holds the Certificate of Pedagogical Aptitude (2006), and is a PhD from the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB) since 2010 (in the Program of Interuniversity Doctorate in Nutrition and Metabolism, with Mention of Quality) with the qualification of outstanding Cum Laude and with Mention of European Doctor. In 2006, she obtained a 4-year predoctoral fellowship from the Government of the Balearic Islands (Ministry of Economy, Finance and Innovation). During her Ph.D. she also completed a pre-doctoral training at the Human Nutrition Research Center at the University of Newcastle in the United Kingdom, for a total of 14 weeks. allowed to acquire training in epigenetic analysis technologies. After her doctoral thesis she developed her postdoctoral research in the LBNB from October 2010 to November 2014. Afterwards, she joined TORRES-QUEVEDO as a researcher in the UIB spin-off technology based company, ALIMENTOMICA S.L. (spin-off 001 of the UIB), within the State Subprogram 'Subprograma Estatal de Formación y en el Subprograma Estatal de Incorporación, del Programa Estatal de Promoción del Talento y su Empleabilidad', within the framework of 'Plan Estatal de Investigación Científica y Técnica y de Innovación 2013-2016'. In January 2018, she became an assistant professor at the UIB, and is currently a lecturer in the Department of Fundamental Biology and Health Sciences of the UIB (since February 2019).

The scientific career of Dr. Palou has been carried out essentially in the Molecular Biology, Nutrition and Biotechnology Laboratory of the UIB, directed by Prof. A. Palou and has resulted in a total of 25 original research articles published in international journals of prestige indexed in JCR, 3 review articles, one chapter book and 3 patents. She has presented numerous communications in national and international scientific congresses / meetings (around 80).

Her main lines of research are: obesity, regulation of body weight and energy homeostasis, and perinatal programming of body weight and metabolic health.

She has participated continuously as a member of the research team in 11 research projects funded by the Spanish Government and the European Union. She is member of the NuGO European Excellence Network, 'The European Nutrigenomics Organization'. This European excellence research network is made up of 23 laboratories from different European countries and its main objective is to integrate research in the field of nutrigenomics. She is also a member of the Centro de Investigación Biomédica en Red de la Fisiopatología de la Obesidad y Nutrición (CiberObn), since 2008 and the Health Research Institute of the Balearic Islands (IdISBa), since September 2018.The IdISBa encompasses 46 research groups and more than 550 researchers from a total of 7 scientific areas of interest. She has also been a member of the Spanish Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and of the Spanish Society for the Study of Obesity (2011-2016). In addition, Dr. Palou has co-supervised (7) master's degree projects, within the official master's degree in Nutrigenomics and Personalized Nutrition of the UIB and is co-directing 3 industrial doctoral theses with the company Alimentómica SL and the UIB. Likewise, he teaches at the UIB to the Degrees of Biology, Biochemistry and Nursing and in the Master in Nutrigenomics and Personalized Nutrition. In addition, she has been part of the organizing committee of several summer seminars and national and international symposiums.
