Brief CV
Ana Belén Petro Balaguer received the Mathematics degree and the Ph.D. degree from the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB), Palma de Mallorca, Spain, in 1999 and 2006, respectively.
In 1999 she joined the Department of Mathematics and Informatics, University of the Balearic Islands (UIB), Mallorca, Spain. Nowadays, she teaches didactics of mathematics.
In recent years, she has participated in various workshops and seminars about teaching and learning mathematics in kindergarten and primary teaching. She is a member of the Board of Directors of the 'Societat Balear de Matemàtiques', where she performs an important task in mathematics divulgation.
Regarding research, she is a member of the Image Processing and Mathematical Analysis group. Her main research focuses on the improvement and enhancement of color images. In recent years, the group has participated in several research projects in this field and it has an extensive collaboration with the company DxO (one of the leading companies in image processing) and with the French Space Agency (in which they are currently improving the processing of satellite images of Pleiades).
Her latest and more important publications are:
- 'Analyzing center/surround retinex'. JL Lisani, JM Morel, AB Petro, C Sbert. Information Sciences 512, 741-759 (2020)
- 'Backlit images enhancement using global tone mappings and image fusion'. A Buades, JL Lisani, AB Petro, C Sbert. IET Image Processing 14 (2), 211-219 (2019)
- 'Towards automatic visual sea grass detection in underwater areas of ecological interest'. A Burguera, F Bonin-Font, JL Lisani, AB Petro, G Oliver. 2016 IEEE 21st International Conference on Emerging Technologies and Factory Automatation (ETFA).
- 'An inquiry on contrast enhancement methods for satellite images'. JL Lisani, J Michel, JM Morel, AB Petro, C Sbert. IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing 54 (12), 7044-7054 (2016)
- 'A PDE formalization of Retinex theory'. JM Morel, AB Petro, C Sbert. IEEE Transactions on Image Processing 19 (11), 2825-2837 (2010)
The professor has two six-year research periods.
