Juan Montes de Oca has a degree in Science, Computer specialty, from the Autonoma University of Barcelona (1987). During 1988 and 1990 performed graduate courses in Computer Graphics and Artificial Intelligence at the Autonoma University of Barcelona and the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB). In 1998 presents the research report 'An application for speech and expression of synthetic 3D characters' in the UIB.

Since 1988 he is professor of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science of the UIB.

In 1989 he makes a stay at the research institute INRIA-Roquencourt (France). In 1990 participates in the development of new software features 3D animation BSCA in Paris (France).

In 1990 part of the founding team of the Master MA ISCA 3D animation within the MEDIA program of the EEC and from 1995 until today, he became director of the same. The master MA ISCA has been recognized through numerous awards and nominations.

In 1995 he created and directed, until today, the LADAT animation and visual technologies UIB unit, whose functions are focused on training, implementation, research and development in the area of ​​technological audiovisual creation.

He has participated in numerous research projects and training in Europe under the framework of the EEC.

In 2008 he was awarded the Digital Worlds Award for his contribution to computer animation, and is named Academic of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Sebastián of the Balearic Islands.
