Narratives, technology and education: the origin of a multidisciplinary approach
My journey began in 1989, when I graduated in Fine Arts at the University of Seville. There I learned to observe the world with a creative 360º perspective, but it was in 1990, specializing in Film and TV Production, where I understood the power of stories to connect with people.
This interest in visual narrative and animation led me to take a European Master of Arts in 1991, an experience that deeply marked my perspective. Studying at institutions such as Middlesex University , the Centre National de la Banda Dessinée et de l'Image and the Utrecht School of the Arts allowed me not only to acquire technical knowledge in multimedia, but also to understand how technology and creativity converge in communication networks.
With these pillars, in 2003 I completed my PhD with a thesis that connected narrative and digital techniques: "Bases prior to the development of the storyboard in a multimedia web document" ( coca.plus /tesis ). This work was ahead of its time, exploring how traditional narrative can be adapted to the digital environment, a challenge that remains crucial in education today.
Innovating from within: the impact of academic roles
Throughout my career, I have taken on responsibilities that go beyond the classroom. From the Directorate of Training of Teaching and Research Staff (PDI) to the Vice-Rectorate of Digital Campus and Transmedia, passing through the Directorate of Communications at the UIB and other management areas, I have always worked to better connect students and teachers. How? By promoting initiatives that modernize teaching and use technology as a bridge, not as an obstacle.
In addition, my time as president of the Fine Arts Degree Development and Design Committee (2021) was an opportunity to reflect on how the visual arts can be integrated into a digital world, without losing their creative essence.
"Connect, transform, inspire": a journey between narrative and teaching innovation
"My mission is not only to teach you, but to accompany you so that you become the professional you aspire to be." This is how I summarise my work as a university professor and researcher. For me, education is not limited to transmitting knowledge; it is a tool to develop a disruptive mindset, capable of addressing the challenges of the present from a comprehensive perspective.
This approach, which has guided my work for decades, is based on a balance between theory and practice, driven by curiosity and a constant search for innovation.
From classrooms to openly sharing knowledge
Teaching has undoubtedly been my greatest passion. Since 1992 , when I started as an Assistant Professor, until I obtained the position as a University Professor in Architectural Graphic Expression , my goal has been to inspire students to think critically and find creative solutions.
That same passion has led me to explore other formats, such as my YouTube channel and the podcasts "A Dibujar se aprende" (Learn to Draw), "El Taller" (The Workshop), "Diseña" (Design), "Observa" (Observe) and "Estrategias docentes" (Teaching Strategies). In them, I try to democratize access to knowledge, bringing tools and strategies to every corner of the world.
A connected and inspiring future
Each stage of my career is a step towards a more flexible, innovative and connected education based on research and dissemination. This journey has taught me that knowledge not only transforms those who acquire it, but also those who share it .
