In accordance with article 16 of Royal Decree 1393/2007 on the Regulation of Official University Studies, later modified by Royal Decree 861/2010, admission to officially recognized Master’s programmes requires that admittees be in possession of an official Spanish university diploma or a diploma issued by another higher educational institution from another State within the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) that allows for holders of the diploma to access Master’s programmes in the country in which it was issued. Diplomas from other foreign education systems outside of the EHEA will also allow for holders to access Master’s programmes without the need to have the diploma officially validated as long as it is verified by the university that the holder’s previous studies accredit that he/she has a level of education equivalent to a corresponding officially recognized Spanish degree programme and the diploma allows for holders to access Master’s programmes in the country in which it was issued.

Following the guidelines in Order CIN/311/2009, access to the Master’s programme that allows for graduates to carry out professions as Industrial Engineers will be granted to those who have already acquired the competencies described in section 3 of the Ministerial Order CIN/351/2009 that lays out the requirements for the verification of official university degrees that allow for holders to carry out the profession of Industrial Technical Engineer, and whose education is in line with that which is established in section 5 of the previously mentioned Ministerial Order (CIN/351/2009).

Additionally, those holding undergraduate degrees that accredit that they have completed the introductory coursework and the common coursework in the appropriate field will be granted access to the Master’s programme, even though the previous studies may not include the entire set of specific technology-related coursework, and as long as 48 of the credits offered in the set of previously mentioned coursework in the degree programme are tied to the practice of the Industrial Technical Engineer profession, in accordance with the aforementioned Ministerial Order.

Also able to access this Master’s programme are those who are in possession of any undergraduate degree, although in this case there is a set of previous complementary education and training that is necessary.

All that is previously stated is without prejudice to that which is established in article 17.2 of Royal Decree 1393/2007 which refers to the possibility for a university to include prior education requirements in any discipline, or to the fourth additional provision of the Royal Decree concerning the particular entry requirements for those who hold official university degrees from study programmes that existed before the implementation of Royal Decree 1319/2007, as is the case for Technical Engineers, for example.

In the case that the demand exceeds the offer, students will be selected based on their CVs. Consideration will be given to the following elements:

·The appropriateness of the degree that allows access to the Master’s programme (weight: 50%).

·Academic transcripts (weight: 20%)

·Professional experience in the field of industrial engineering (weight: 20%)

·Professional or academic letters of recommendation to the Master’s programme (weight: 10%)

Along with the application, students requesting admission to the Master’s programme must turn in the following:

·A certificate that provides information about the courses that were taken during the applicant’s undergraduate studies. It should include the marks that were obtained in each course and the number of exam sittings that were needed to pass.

·A CV.

·Professional or academic letters of recommendation.

After considering the documentation that is provided, the Master’s Studies Committee will evaluate the applications based on the established requirements and the previously mentioned admission criteria.

Recommended qualifications for admission

The following shall be admitted to the Master's without additional training requirements:

• Graduates in Automation and Industrial Electronic Engineering from the UIB.
• Graduates in Industrial Technology Engineering from any Spanish university.
• Graduates in Industrial Engineering.

The following shall be admitted to the Master's with possible additional training requirements:

• Graduates in Industrial Engineering (Electrical, Automation and Industrial Electronic, Mechanical and Chemical) from any Spanish university that are certified to work professionally as Technical Industrial Engineers.

The following shall be admitted to the Master's with additional training requirements:

• Graduates in Energy Engineering (or equivalent) from any Spanish university.
• Graduates in Technical Industrial Engineering from any Spanish university that are certified to work professionally as Technical Industrial Engineers.

For all other degree holders, the Master's Academic Committee shall look at each specific case and ensure all additional training is taken that enables students to acquire the skills set out in section 3 of Ministerial Order CIN/351/2009 (which sets out the requirements to verify official university qualifications that certify holders to work professionally as Technical Industrial Engineers). Candidates may be refused admission where the number of additional training credits is equal to or above 48.
 

Students holding a Master’s degree in industrial engineering can apply to further postgraduate study programmes that award doctorate degrees, at any university. More specifically, they can request admission in the electronic engineering doctorate programme or the information and communication technologies doctorate programme offered by the University of the Balearic Islands.

This Master’s degree enables graduates to carry out the regulated profession of industrial engineer (Ministerial Order CIN/311/2009). According to various reports from both public and private organizations, industrial engineers are some of the most sought after professionals in Spanish businesses. Possible job opportunities include the following:

• Designing and regulating machinery
• Commercial engineering

• Industrial engineering and robotics
• Engineering for large facilities
• Technical departments
• Managing and directing R+D projects
• Civil servants or employees in any administrative body having to do with industrial engineering or innovation in the EU, or at a national or local level
• Researchers and scholars at public and private universities

This study programme follows the structure established by Ministerial Order CIN/311/2009. It consists of 78 ECTS credits and is structured across four modules that take place over three semesters.

According to what is set out in RD 1393/2007 (modified by Royal Decree 861/2010), we shall deem recognition as the adaptation of credits which, having been awarded on official courses at the same or at another university, are counted on a different course for the purpose of obtaining an official qualification. In turn, credit transfer implies that all credits obtained on official courses taken previously that have not led to the award of an official title shall be included in the official accreditation documents for the programme taken by each student. Current general legislation shall apply in this matter.

Furthermore, credits obtained on official university programmes that accredit the achievement of skills and knowledge linked to the curriculum may qualify for recognition, on the condition that this recognition only applies to full subjects or modules set out in the course syllabus and not to sections of them.

Students may also have credits recognised for those corresponding to subjects taken on mobility programmes. Recognition of subjects with content that does not coincide will the planned elective subjects may be possible as long as the agreement governing the activity explicitly states so.

In accordance with article 39 of the Regulatory Agreement of 16th March 2010 (FOU 328 of 23rd April) and article 13 in provision 9740/2011 (FOU 346 of 18th March 2011), and with a view to determining credit recognition and transfer procedures, the Master's Academic Council shall constitute a Credit Recognition and Transfer Committee
